Keizer, Oregon – August 31, 2017
The Lady Celts had seven different goal scorers in strong performance over South Albany.
After getting some first game jitters out on Tuesday, McNary came ready to play Thursday afternoon. In the 7’ junior Izzy Haselip gave a through pass to junior Abigail Hawley who provided a confident finish. In the 15’ minute freshman defender Audrey Williams made a great weak side run, and after collecting her rebound twice finished on the third attempt. In the 22’ two sophomores connected as Ariana Santana beat her defender on the outside and put a cross through the box that was finished at the back post buy Julie Dieker. In the 32’ Hawley crossed a ball in that was finished one-time by Katy Wyatt inside the six-yard box. In the 35’ Haselip found the end of a long punt by keeper Sydney Snapp who provided a clinical finish on a breakaway. Just one minute later in the 36’ Haselip served a great diagonal pass across the field that was collected on the run and finished by Santana. McNary took a 6-0 lead into the half.
In the second half McNary set out to maintain intensity while slowing down the pace of the game and increasing possession. In the 66’ sophomore defender Samantha Alfano made a run through the midfield and hit a beautiful shot from 25 yards in the upper left corner of the goal. In the 70’ sophomore Gina Munguia hit the left post with a shot from outside, that was run down by Wyatt who served a one-time cross back through the box and finished with a great header by Dieker. Although the McNary defense only has one returning varsity player, they have allowed just four shots total in their first two games and collected their second straight shutout to start the 2017 campaign.
The final score of the match was McNary 8, South Albany 0.
The next game for the Celts is away next Tuesday, September 5 at 7:00pm vs Sandy.
