Multiple Teams · McNary Cross Country Opens 2017 Conference Schedule

Keizer, Oregon – September 14, 2017
McNary Cross Country began the 2017 season with excitement around its growing program and heightened expectations.
The Greater Valley Conference (GVC) meet between McMinnville, McKay, and McNary at McMinnville’s Joe Dancer Park started off on a high note from the very beginning. During the Girls’ JV race, Nina Garland, a freshman runner for McNary, paced herself as she learned the winding course. After 3,000 meters, with growing confidence, Nina decided it was time to pace the field and she did so for the remaining 2,000 meters to take the first win for McNary with a time of 24:21.32 (PR). The McNary Girls JV team earned a first-place team finish behind new personal records from Nina Garland, Jaizielle Samson, Aracely Plata Gonzalez, and Carmen Sanchez. Meanwhile, Wolfie Barr and Breanne Hofmann both finished inside the top-8 to help the Lady Celts beat their competition.
While rounding the sports complex throughout Joe Dancer Park, McNary’s Kailey Doutt paced with McMinnville’s Maddie Rollins during the Girls’ Varsity race. With 1,000 meters remaining Doutt knew it was time to take control of the race as she separated herself from Rollins to win by 7 seconds with a time of 20:12.12 – currently the 4th fastest time in the GVC. Finishing third was McNary’s Ella Repp, a freshman varsity runner, who set a new personal record at 20:30.47 – currently the 8th fastest time in the GVC.
David Allen, junior runner, was the top finisher for McNary during the Boys Varsity race with a finishing time of 18:34.09. The converted football player turned runner completed his first 5K in sixth place while pacing all other McNary boys. Jonas Honeyman, senior runner, rounded out the top-10 with a time of 18:59.49 – a season record.
